Camacho wins Heaviest and Longest Bangus anew

2015 BANGUS FESTIVAL'S BANGUS RODEO

DAGUPAN CITY – For the second time in a row, Marilyn Camacho of Pugaro Suit won the heaviest and the longest bangus competitions in the 2015 Bangus Festival Bangus Rodeo on April 24 held in front of the city museum.
The heaviest bangus this year weighed 4.410 kilograms while the longest recorded an official length of 76 centimeters, both of which were entered by Camacho.
Camacho also won the same categories last year when her entry weighed 7.66 kilograms while her entry for the longest bangus measured 87.5 centimeters.
Camacho won a total cash prize of P30,000 for both category aside from trophies.
Coming in second in the Heaviest Bangus category was the entry of Blas Gabriel Caneng of Pantal West at 4.270 kilos and in third place was the entry of Joey dela Torre of Pantal-Patalan, 3.220 kilos.
Caneng won the Heaviest Bangus title in 2008 and was also the holder of the Longest Bangus in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Coming in second for the Longest Bangus category was the entry of Nagz Oviedo of Pantal-Patalan, 72 centimeters and the entry of Sandrell Bryan Caneng of Pantal West, 71 centimeters, in third place.
Cash prizes for the second and third places both for the Heaviest and Longest Bangus were P10,000 and P5,000 and trophies respectively.
The 2015 Prettiest Bangus title went to the entry of Raymund Dalioan of Calarin, Malued; second was Joseph Ferrer Jr. also of Calarin, Malued; and the third was the entry of Serwyn Rhod Montemayor also of Malued here.
The prettiest bangus cash prizes were P7,000; P5,000; and P3,000 respectively with trophies.
In selecting the prettiest bangus the judges have considered the following: eyes are clear and well rounded, scales are fine, smooth and orderly; head is small and beautifully crafted, stomach is bulging, grills are red and fresh, tail ideally are not of equal length, the lower fin is shorter; flesh is firm yet soft, odor is pleasant and alluring and the weight is not less than half kilo and not more than one kilo.
This year’s 2015 fastest bangus classifier was Melecio Melendez of Bonuan Gueset with a time of 2:7:16 minutes; second was Johnny Sendayen of Barangay Bolosan at 3:45:30 minutes; and coming in third was Ryan Doria at 4:4:69 minutes. All three won the same event in 2014 in the same order.
Each received cash prize and a trophy: P3,000; P2,000; and P1,000 respectively. Non-winners received P500 as consolation.
The fastest bangus eaters were Rosauro Ate of Pantal Guibang, first; Jaime Bucao Jr. of PNR Site, Mayombo, second; and Benedict Abalos of Barangay 1, third. Each receive cash prize and a trophy, P3,000; P2,000; and P1,000 respectively.
This year’s fastest bangus deboner were Catalina dela Cruz of Mangin, first; Francisca Masaoy of Mangin, second; and Julius de Vera of Pantal Guibang, third.
Each received cash prize and a trophy: P3,000; P2,000; and P1,000 respectively. Non-winners received P500 as consolation.
In her message, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez thanked Feedmix for supporting the Bangus Rodeo since the very start and informed everyone that the city will soon implement the tagging of bangus which will give more value to the city’s main produce.
This year’s chairman is Liga ng mga Barangay President Councilor Marcelino Fernandez in cooperation with the City Agriculture Office headed by Emma J. Molina. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/April 24, 2015)
