Cops Compete in D.P.C.R. Challenge



CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Eight-man Search, Rescue and Retrieval (SRR) Teams under the Regional Public Safety Battalions (RPSBs) of Police Regional Offices 1, 2, 3 and Cordillera joined the elimination round competition of the 2-Day Disaster Preparedness for Contingency and Response (DPCR) Challenge held at the PRO1 Parade Ground on October 16, 2014.

During the opening ceremony, Police Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix, Regional Director of PRO1 welcomed the participants and contenders of the different PROs and even acknowledged the attendance of PCSupt. Rene D. Ong, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) and Vice Chairman of the PNP Sub-Committee on Disaster Management (PNP-SCDM). 

PCSupt Felix likewise emphasized that the competition has its unified purpose of enhancing the skills of police personnel in disaster preparedness and response particularly in the area of search and rescue.

Meanwhile, PCSupt. Ong in his message stressed that said competition is part of the PNP’s continuing capability and capacity building effort in ensuring the effective and timely response during calamities. Ang kompetisyong ito ay hindi lang tagisan ng galing kundi aktibidad na ang hangad ay pagbubuklod ng interes at pandagdag kaalaman,” he said.

The DPCR Deputy Director also added that the PNP is a member of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and it is imperative to be proactive and adequately equipped and ready to be deployed when disasters and calamities hit the country.


The elimination round of DPCR Challenge is being conducted all over the country. It was started on September 25-27 in Davao for Mindanao, October 10-12 in Cebu for Visayas, October 16-18 in La Union for Northern Luzon, and on October 30-31 in Batangas for Southern Luzon.

Winners of the elimination rounds from Davao, Cebu, La Union and Batangas will compete on the first week of November in La Mesa Dam, Quezon City for the finals.


The first prize winner for the final competition will receive a cash prize of P50,000.00 and trophy; second prize winner of P25,000.00 plus trophy and third prize winner of P15,000.00 plus trophy. Two (2) special awardees will also receive P5,000.00 cash prize each and medals.###
